Notocactus

It is a big and distinct genus that has been included in Parodia for unreasonable reasons. Most of us do not accept the change. Their motherland lies in South America, first of all in its warmer parts (Brasil etc.). Not too big, mostly globular, densely spined, with huge flowers that are yellow and only exceptionally red or pink and last a few days, longer than other cacti’s. Waiting for flowers does not last long. Very easy to grow. They like a mix with some soil added, ample watering, greenhouse or open space, sunlight or light shade. In winter not very cold, 5–12°C is OK, in a bright position if possible. It is important that the winter watering break should not be longer than three months to encourage flowering. |
